Vuori and Wildsam have a lot in common, starting with our love for coastal California, especially sweet Encinitas–that’s Vuori’s birthplace and one of Wildsam’s favorite stops for surf vibes and dawn light. In a larger sense, both brands blend a grounded perspective with an insatiable curiosity and drive to explore new territory. Vuori makes clothing deeply inspired by California’s effortless coastal lifestyle; in design and technology, their joggers, hoodies, shorts, shirts (and more) look to the future and serve the action of today. As we explore the Golden State in the pages that follow, our shared joy in the world around us will light the way.

Insights from Vuori ambassadors

California Perspectives

“Every gathering, every activity, was based around the ocean. It’s a main location of celebration for us. You can take beach culture two different ways. You can visualize a lazy, kicked-back surfer. But for me, the ocean has always been a source of ambition. It drove my career since I was 18 years old, becoming an L.A. County lifeguard. On one hand, it’s very therapeutic—a safe space. On the other, it is a source of income, drive and competition.”

— Stefanie Corgel, trainer and creator

“California just expands and expands and expands. You have the deserts of Southern California, Central California’s mountains, the coastline, then Northern California’s redwood forests. And amazing cities that are breakneck beacons of culture, like San Francisco and L.A. California is just this magnificent melting pot. And the ethos, of almost every Californian, is to just spend as much time outside as possible.”

— Morgan Maassen, photographer and filmmaker

“I was born and raised on the Central Coast–San Luis Obispo, the 805. Most of our fun came from road trips, going out to find little lakes, going to rivers, going rafting and rock climbing. Anywhere from Big Sur to Santa Barbara: That will forever be home. My first passion was backpacking–we’d look at old guidebooks and old rocking climbing books and just head out, with no real idea what these places were until we got there. The thing California has is that ability to hop in a car and explore so many places. Joshua Tree. Lake Tahoe. Vegas. I can drive to snow in Mammoth–it’s just so vast and diverse. I can go skiing on a random Tuesday.”

— Dylan Efron, producer and actor

“I wake up at sunrise and take my dog for a walk. I walk up a big hill to the top, turn around and look out, and I’m looking at the Pacific Ocean. I can see the swells coming in. There’s a moment of appreciation–look where I am, look where I live. And in very similar fashion, from my house, we can see the horizon. So at the end of the day, there’s always a moment when it’s like, everyone stop. The sun’s going down. We get amazing sunsets. It’s a moment when you say, okay. This was a good day.”

— Rob Machado, professional surfer
