NAOMI LONG MADGETT

She was named Detroit’s Poet Laureate in 2001. Her work hinges on the themes of civil rights and African-American spirituality and shows the influence her mentor, the poet Langston Hughes.

Detroit artists Michael Burdick and James Noellert work together on illustration, design and mural projects under the moniker Eugene Carland, their middle names. They’ve been commissioned by Apple, Shinola, Carhartt and Airbnb.
